Shipwreck O.k. Today
« on: August 03, 2015, 06:20:27 PM »
We made the run from Camano Island State Park to the shipwreck this morning.  Got a late start, so we felt lucky to catch anything.  They were down between 80 & 95 feet.  We lost quite a few fish & released 1 chinook about 10 lbs.  Kept three hens.

We stayed too late, trying to catch another salmon on two.  Seems like we do best trolling south.  At the afternoon tide change the wind picked up & we got a pounding on the run back.

Clocked Sea Bear with the Evinrude 70 for the first time.  28 mph wot, and she cruises nicely at 23.  Burned up about 12 gallons of petro.  My son Forrest is 18 & did a fine job of skippering in the chop.  All I got out of it was a bruised but & a sore back.

What a great day with my kid.  Salmon ready for the brine!

I thought the gas bill was pretty cheap.  We traveled 40 miles round trip, and trolled for 5 hours.  We could launch much closer, but we felt like taking a long run and explore the east side of Whidbey on our way down.  We're getting 5 gallons per hour at 23 mph, which isn't too bad.

Smoking salmon today.   :EAT:

Ok, not bad at all! Did not know how far you traveled. Was thinking normal Salmon trip, just a few miles all day.
But ya, for an old Evi, that's not bad.

Sometimes the run from shipwreck to the Everett launch is a rough run.   I wouldn't want to extend it all the way up to Camano on a bouncy day.

Boy, you got that right Bill W.  :chuckle:  We just got a wild hair, since we live so close to the Camano launch.  It started to whip up a froth around Hat, but got better by the time we got to Langley.  We figured if it got bad, we could spend the night at Clinton or Langley.  We always got sleeping bags and extra food/water.  Last year we got beat to death going from the shipwreck to Everett.  We were getting off the water asap.  Yesterday we just had a stubborn chop.  Sore today.  Lots of pounding.   :chuckle:
