New to JBLM...
« on: August 07, 2015, 09:29:56 PM »
I was recently stationed at JBLM after spending the majority of my life (and hunting career) on the Eastern Seaboard.  Due to my timing, I think I am going to choose rifle this year as opposed to bow.  I would appreciate any help anyone can offer, whether it be tips for on post or possible ideas in regards to public land in and around Olympia.  Thanks in advance!

Check with the Northwest Adventure Center, I think it still is on North Fort.  Also check in with Dave at the Skeet range for advise. The Base has some decent hunting, deer, bear and waterfowl. Old Army guy myself 9th Inf Division stationed a Ft. Lewis at the close of the Viet Nam conflict.

PM me I can give tips and places.  My father was DOD for 30 years at then Ft. Lewis.  He worked with fish and game and got to know the place well.  A lot of deer few big ones and bear.  We took a lot of deer with shotguns out there over the years.

Welcome! If you are planning on sticking to JBLM you need to head over to bldg 4074 and get an access pass from Range Control.  This will allow you to scout whatever areas are open prior to season starting. Also will need to hit up Northwest Adventure center on north fort to register to hunt/ view the required video.
This isn't the east coast wher you can climb just about every tree with a climber. You'll see that most pople who hunt The northwest walk around. Also, you'll not see the number of deer you're used to seeing from the east coast. I moved here in 2013. PM me if you want more information and use/search this forum. Tons of good information on here.
