Hevi-steel?
« on: August 08, 2015, 06:06:04 PM »
Can't seem to find much info about Hevi-steel made by Hevi-shot. I would assume it is heavier than regular steel but who knows?

No I don't think it is, I think it is sold on having quality round shot, and a good build, but its just steel. I used it last year, seemed to work ok, but my gun didn't love it, and it wasn't worth paying the extra money for.

I found some info about it when it first came out in 2004 I think. Says it is made of iron and tungston scraps. It appears to be just plain steel now for about 15 bucks a box for 3in 12g

I think heavy metal is what your referencing that came out before, heavy steel is new the last year or 2. heavy metal is decent, little heavier then lead, put together very good, nice uniform shot, over a buck a shot though.

The Hevi-metal now has steel shot and smaller tungston pellets in the same load.

Hevi- shot= tungsten
Hevi-metal =  tungsten and steel mixed
Hevi-steel= just steel shot

Hope that helps

I used to shoot heavy steel when it first came out & this stuff was awesome on snow geese!! then came along heavy metal and the performance was garbage!  Kent fast steel had better penetration on galvanized plates, the heavy metal only dented the plates @ 40yrds. Maybe the hevi-shot company heard the waterfowlers out cry & returned heavy steel to the shelves.
