Marking catch records
« on: August 21, 2015, 07:38:21 AM »
I’ve yet to find a pen that reliably writes on the slick catch record material, especially if it is wet or damp.  I end up with a smeared blob of ink.  Any suggestions on a pen that writes legibly on these?

Ball point?  Works fine for me every time.

It was a problem when I used to bank fish especially if raining.  Nothing seemed to work well if the catch card was damp.  Now that I exclusively boat fish it's easier to keep things dry.  It helps too to have a backing pad (I use the fishing rules booklet) to scribble a few lines on to get the ink flowing good.

I just wait until I'm back at the truck to mark 'em.

I've used a standard ball point and as long as I keep things try never really had an issue. Usually, the current regs are used as a surface to place the tag on...I think a softer writing pad like the regs or a book help.

I've had good marking with the refill ink for the high end pens.  The small ball point replacements that go inside the pen.
