Surprise Surprise!

I've owned Diesels for 20 years and just learned my truck 2009 Dodge 3500 EGR needs maintenance. Had truck serviced before going camping for a week. No issues mentioned. Fueled up in Montana and "check engine" light came on. Called Dodge and they said most diesels have this maintenance hit about 65,000 miles. Told me it will cost $600.

So after doing some research, I see its another one of these damn emission standard gatchets that will cause you to loose power, fail emissions and etc..
Similar to the sensors I remember replacing in Toyota's that a Mechanic can replace. What a butch of BS! I watched a video online where a guy changed it in 12 minutes, minus the soak time. So what the hell is the $600 going for?
If anyone near Spokane has dealt with this or dealt with Davis Diesel, let me know. They aren't giving me the $600 quote. That would be Dodge. I read a couple bad reviews on Davis today and I'm now skeptical.
