What is this? Deer or cat?
« on: August 27, 2015, 09:59:11 PM »
I've combined two video files - the second following the first by about 35 seconds.  I'm pretty sure I deleted a file between the two combined here because the file sequence skips a number - it was likely another video of more wandering around by the doe in that same general vicinity, and so makes the animal in question just a few seconds behind the doe.

Poor image quality makes identification of the animal running out of the central bushes in the background nearly impossible.  The only clues I can find are:

-  the height of the second animal(that seems to be less than of the doe - though I'm not positive) which can be best compared as it exits stage right at about  2 - 3 yards farther away from the camera than the preceding deer did on the road
-  the pattern of locomotion, which to my eye, is not quite deer-like

I'm curious how you all judge this ghosted animal - a deer, or a cat in apparent attack mode. (?)

+1 for the deer vote
There is something just indescribably painful about being stuck behind a prius on the interstate.

I originally thought deer, but then questioned it after comparing the heights of the animals.  Even though the second animal is a bit farther away, it seems smaller to me, and I keep thinking my brain is recognizing a long tail, though you cannot see one on slow/stop motion.

This is the same location I captured a pretty good size cat on the cam about 3 months prior, which was posted in the camera/trail cam section of the forum.  The fact that it comes out of hiding just second after that other deer strolls through made it seem more sinister than a deer, but God knows, those deer are skittish as hell.  I have many videos of them standing still one moment then at full throttle the next, for seemingly no reason at all.

If I hadn't deleted the prior video, I might have been able to visualize the animal before it bolted.
Thanks for the input.
