Sheath modification - Benchmade
« on: September 01, 2015, 09:38:18 PM »
So I bought a Benchmade Saddle Mountain Skinner several months back.  I like the knife itself as a very light fixed blade for carrying in the backcountry.

I didn't like the sheath at all, which is leather with a kydex insert. It doesn't retain the blade at all. So I ordered a kydex sheath for the knife directly from Benchmade for $30.  Same problem, to a lesser degree. The sheath does not retain the knife.

I'm not sure of the sheaths you're referring to specifically but find a leather bender locally maybe they can make you something? A well made and wet formed simple pouch style leather sheath will retain a fixed blade knife, kydex will do the same but it's noisy. Both have advantages and disadvantages.
