Catch Cards
« on: September 12, 2015, 08:33:18 AM »
I recently moved to washington from Ohio and am trying to learn all of the different rules and regulations and also teach my kids the rules properly.  One issue that I am having is understanding the catch card system completely.  For example my 13 year old son wants to go fishing on the lake near our house by himself.  He does not have and does not need a license according to the law but it states he is required to have a catch card.  When i go to the state website it states i can buy one if i lose mine and i get it with my license.  A little help in understanding this would be appreciated.  Just seems a little un clear on the wording.

A catch record is required for salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, halibut and Puget Sound Dungeness crab.  If he isn’t fishing for any of those he does not need a catch record.

If he is fishing for one of the above mentioned you just go to a licencing agent like sportsmans or walmart and ask for a catch card and they will add him to the system so you need id and a social. Just went through this with my nephew.

Thank you guys.  I appreciate it.  They do not make that portion of the rules very clear.  You all did though.

The card is also free of charge for the little ones that don't need a license.
