I just got the 650 and it is great. Going to get the onx chip today. My buddy has the same setup and he loves it.
Im looking at getting one of these as well. Im curious on battery life
The new 600s don't have volume buttons. I've been using an old 130 for years and loved it but it finally died. I got the new 650 and haven't had a chance to use it yet, but lack of volume buttons seems odd. Is it a simple workaround?

This will display a page of volume, backlight, and squelch settings.

Seems easy enough I guess, but I fail to see the logic in taking frequently used buttons off of the unit and burying them in a touch screen. Same goes for the zoom. Looking forward to the better antennae though.

I greatly prefer the 62 and 64 series. However, if you do want radio capability then the RINO is the way to go, and the newer versions use touch screens.
I totally agree. Love having a Rino for the comms. Just wish they wouldn't get so "feature" happy I actually had my eye out for an old 530HCX but when REI had the 650 on sale for $330 last weekend I jumped.

Looks like Cabelas still has the sale, but it's on backorder.http://www.cabelas.com/product/garmin-reg-rino-650-gps-radio/1214167.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FN%3D1000003497%2B10000054%26Ne%3D10000054%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dgps%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%252BProducts%26WTz_st%3DSearchRefinements%26form_state%3DsearchForm%26search%3Dgps%26searchTypeByFilter%3DTopRated%26x%3D10%26y%3D6&Ntt=gps
Anyone think these units will go on sale again(hopefully soon?)I'm mad at myself for missing the sales, did find one online for $390. $60 is a small difference, but I feel bad having to spend more for missing the sale.
You raise some interesting points. I’m personally not a fan of the RINOs, although I own three of the 650s because of their GPS/radio/location polling capabilities.Wiping the screen: I’ve never tried that. Sounds like I never should. I’ve never felt a need to. Not sure why. I have a screen protector: maybe that beads up the water better.Battery use: if you’re running the GPS all day, I don’t think there are too many GPS units that won’t need regular battery replacements. Getting 12 to 14 hours on a set of AAs is pretty typical, especially if any backlighting is used.Locking the channel: why not carry the GPS on a different screen? I keep my RINO on the map page, not the radio page. The only time I may access the radio screen is to poll someone but if I’m communicating via radio that’s not necessary.Bulkiness: agreed. I prefer the 60 series models (60, 62, 64) for many reasons including weight but they don’t have radio capabilities.Polling: I never get beeps when polling. It must be a sound/tone setting somewhere that I turned off. I’ll check to see if I can find it.Thanks for the comments.
