Thoughts from the weekend
« on: September 13, 2015, 11:50:36 AM »
Well, I took my dad into the colockum on sat. We both had shot opportunities and both failed(hahaha) that's the way it goes sometimes. It was still one of the best days I had in the woods in a long time just getting to hunt with the old man. We have a few encounters, saw plenty of animals. Was a good day for the most part. I turned to archery to get away from the crowds, wow was I wrong. I have never seen so many people up there for archery. This was a new area for us and was last min to decide to try it. Even though we did see a few critters, way too many people for my taste. If they keep this otc cow thing open, I will never step foot in there again. Never thought I'd see it this early. Good luck all and stay safe. Quite the mix crowd up there.

And I didn't know archery road hunting was an actual thing, but you would be amazed how many trucks we heard doing just that. Just wrapping the mountain over and over. We were quit a ways in there, but the noise travels everywhere. Just unreal.

Let me guess there were recliners in backs of trucks and flatbeds with big coolers loaded with just ice of course.......

Multi-season tags don't help there use to be a little break on how many people hunted what season know it's a zoo from Sept. To Nov. I can believe how many people are up in the reecer/colockum area this year. I'm betting muzzy season will be worse know that you can hunt Spikes.

Not sure why you guys bitch about road hunters, that means there not in the woods with you. And if your seeing a lot of road hunters that means your not in the woods I guess.

Weather was too hot and night time was way too clear. Can't wait for next weekend based on weather reports.

Oh we got in to plenty of elk and we were quite a ways off the mainline. Just up there, doesn't matter where you go, always a road not far off. I have hunted there before when it was just true spike and I never saw another person. This whole Open cow thing has turned it into a joke. Should go to permit for cows and leave it at that. Too much stress for me to ever go back. I don't know how people find enjoyment in that madness.

Hot yes.... Going to be better. Could've had a decent 6x6 if I had the tag on opening morning. Cows came in behind bull but never close enough for a shot. Another close bull Saturday evening. Happy never saw boot tracks where we were at. Long work week till Friday when I return for remainder of season. Looked and felt promising!
Worst day hunting is better than best day working!
