Rookie Question

Hey guys - I purchased a used Remington Model 700 ml (50 cal) and am curious what I should use at the end of my rod when loading a sabot?  The end has threads so I assume a normal starter jag or something similar would work once the bullet has been started to push down through the barrell?  Am I off base?  Thanks!!

Congrats on the 700ML - it is a very good PacNorWest ML.. You do normally screw a loading jag in the of the rod for loading... In your case for right now I might recommend a very simple TC super jag.



This short little jag could even be left on the road while hunting.

I normally end up cutting my rod down in length and installing the longer TC Super jag.

You can see in this picture I cut the rod down and installed the long Jag so now the whole assembly fits the rifle.

Very good advice there from Sabotloader.  One thing I will add (from past experience) is make sure the loading jag you choose fits the bullet you are using well.  I had a jag (a generic CVA I think) that didn't quite fit the angle of the tip of the bullet I was loading (Hornady SST) As I pushed the bullet down the barrel the hole in the very center of the jag would dig into the bullet right where the plastic tip met the copper jacket and would catch.  This would cause the bullet to pull out of the sabot when I removed the rod after loading.  I switched jags and never had a problem again.  Just one thing to consider.

I have found that the super jag fits 90% of the bullets out there so not all but most
