FIRST TIME ANTELOPE HUNTER QUESTIONS
« on: October 10, 2015, 11:41:13 AM »
Hey guys
Headed over for my first goat hunt,

Im a timber rat so this long range stuff will be a little new to me.

Im shooting my 300 win mag as a primary

My question is

Im taking my .243 with 55 gr bt for notes and a back up rifle

Whats your thoughts on shooting speed goats with the 55 gr bt ?????

Thanks guys John

The 243 would be perfect for antelope, but I'd go with a heavier bullet. That 55 grain won't do very well in the wind.

Depending on the unit my advice is to lock your bullets up the first day

A 243 is completely adequate for antelope.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

 :yeah:

I agree, but I wouldn't be using 55 grain bullets.

I think 80 is even light.....   nothing wrong with 100 grain bullets out of a 243.

I have used 7 mag and 243.  I would opt for the 243 with whatever it shoots best, probably 80 or more.  You can get close, patience is a virtue. I have taken them at less than 40 yards and more than 400.  Go for the 40.
