Tarp for elk tent
« on: October 20, 2015, 10:58:06 AM »
The elk tent needs a new Tarp to go over the top. I would like to get something a bit more heavy duty than the old green and brown we were using. Does anyone have any suggestions for some durable tarp products in the Snohomish/Skagit county area?

Find someone with an old grain tarp that will let you cut off a piece.  Heavy duty.

I purchased a heavy duty grey tarp from Harbor Freight. Used it over my travel trailer in the winter.

I just like a white tarp I don't know if they are any heavier than a blue tarp but they let a lot of light in, I have a heavy tarp that lets no sun in and it's night time all day long in my tent

Look at Davis tent.  They have rain fly's and will do custom work.  I have one for my tent and it works great, I've had it for 5 years now and no worse for wear.

Gamblin Guy nailed it
Clear tarps from A-1 are perfect. Lots of light in the tent, no more dark caves.

sharps tarps.... they make tarps for trucking, little heavy, but rubberized canvas is 100% water proof, and last for years...

Clear visqueen is tougher than the blue and green tarps, it's cheap and is the best at sliding snow. Just tie in rocks by cinch knotting the rocks for your tie offs. It also lets in light great. I have a white tarp right now, but it is starting to wear. Once it is shot I will replace it with visqueen.

Thanks for the input guys. I definitely like the idea of a white or clear cover. The cave effect gets old quick. I dont see why a guy couldnt punch some grommets around the visqueen ans use as tarp. Might have to give it a go for this year and see how it works.

All great tarps. I've used 4 tarps in the last 18 years. The cost is fairly low. I'd could live in my wall tent

Coastal Farm & Ranch was having a tarp sale last time I was there. They had the heavy duty plastic tarps (silver/brown) in a quite a few larger sizes as well as even heavier duty waxed canvas tarps. Big tarps aren't cheap though. On sale the bigger ones were well over $100.
