Id love some feed back if anyone has used this particular scope. Its a pretty new model so may not be many with this model. Ive played with several of CatwithBoosts Monarchs in lower power settings and I love the BDC reticle. However, Ive always been a huge fan of the higher magnification ranges as an option.
Ive heard some people dont like the BDC.
I know theres tons of people on here that dont believe anything over 14x is EVER necessary. Oh and 50mm is also useless and gets in the way...lol
This is what I know about me. I have tons of 32mm, 40mm, and 50mm obj scopes. The 32 seems to be darker than my eye in low light. My 40's are about matched with my eyes, and 50mm seems to be slightly better than mt eyes. Now, Im sure people will have wonderful things to say about that but that is my personal experience with light collection. Ill trade the light collection for a 3/4 inch ring over a lower one any day.
As for the power range...I have plenty of 9x scopes. and they kill stuff sure enough. However, 9x at 300 yards doesnt look like the image I get from the 18x scope thats been my main scope for the last 10 years. (Simmons Whitetail Classic 6-18x50mm-a 100$ scope then and now). For me, a deer at 9x at 300 yards looks visible but Im shooting "center mass". The same deer at 300 yards at 18x allows me to pick the crease in his armpit that I want to shoot into.
ok...so why 32x? Well, I doubt that setting will get hit much... but I figure the BDC has drop down reticles out for 600 yard shots. Now I doubt Ill ever be shooting enough to feel comfortable to shoot an animal at 600 yards (A VERY LONG SHOT FOR 99% of US and US INCLUDES ME
). So, I would have been happy with 20x and the 6-24x is the only 50mm MONARCH that has my desired power setting (20x) other than the 32x. Well, this is an outrageously expensive scope purchase (FOR ME...we dont need to hear the 2800 price tag on yours
). So...the cost of a Monarch 6-24x50 is only about 50$ cheaper than the 8-32x50. Well...when the price tag is ridiculous already...30% "better" for 50$ seems reasonable enough
So...thats why I chose the 50mm and the 32x.
Why Nikon?
When I was using Catwithboost's nikons (and he has like a baker's dozen of them
) i was very impressed with the clarity and quality (percieved) of the glass.
Well, that prompted me to drive the boys at sportsmans crazzy by doing several hours of side by side quality checking against the Leupolds. I had always percieved Leupold to have a better reputation amongst people who could afford scopes that cost more than 99$ with shipping
Well, here comes the angry rants...
I found the Nikons to kick the ass of Leupold for quality and clarity in the price range competition. Starting at like 250$ Id take one of each and Nikon was the clearer picture every single time... not even close
to my shock!
Hell, I like the Monarch 8-32x50mm ED (700$ retail) much more than the 1000-1200$ Leupolds.
PS- I didnt pay even close to 700$
So, there you have it. How I ended up with the purchase I made.
Ill do this again in 10 years when I can convince myself its time to upgrade!
Im very happy with my purchase. I hope the deer of Eastern WA are very sad about my purchase next fall.
