Hunting between monesano and satsop
« on: October 28, 2015, 08:38:37 AM »
Hey there guys, i've been looking at the go hunt deal there on the DFW website. and i ran across this public access land down between montesano and satsop. I was curious if anyone has been out there and if so, any info on the area?? looking at satellite images can only tell me so much, i plan to head out there saturday but just wanted to see if i could get some insight before the drive :) thanks in advance.

If it is south of the highway along the river it used to be a pheasant release site, I don't know it it still is.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

It might be a no rifle area too.

On the go hunt map it shows the north side of the highway/river.

I live down that way and went to the GO-Hunt maps and see nothing between Satsop and Monty that extends north of the Highway,  East of Satsop the Chehalis  Wildlife area runs up to the Highway 12.  It gets hammered pretty good but there are ducks there but you need a good dog or boat as most of the water is deep and there is floating bog over it in places.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Nothing north of the highway.  there is the chehalis wildlife area and some feel free to hunt waterfowl land off Brady loop and one hunt by reservation on willis rd.

I live in Montesano.  There are quite a few farms open to hunting, but they get hit 7 days a week.  You can scratch a few birds if you're willing to spend all day.  I used to hunt those fields years ago back when people actually went to the farmers and asked permission.  Not many people put forth that kind of effort so only a few people hunted them and the hunting was great.  Now anyone can just show up and hunt, so people come from miles around because it's easy public access.  It's ruined the hunting in my opinion.  I don't like crowds so don't hunt them anymore.  If you can sneak away during mid week, you might get a field to yourself.  Weekends you will be fighting for a spot.
