Mrs. BH45 and her deer hunting !
« on: November 01, 2015, 07:31:46 AM »
I was not going to write any stories this year ! But you know its hard to do when you have been here this long !  lmao  So our plans never went the way I had planned ! We were planning to head east for the 1st week but ended getting a Big House to build in Anacortes and could not get away for a week . So we decided to hunt around the house . Which is fine with me . Opening morning we run into one of the biggest bodied spikes I may have ever seen ! We had no intension of shooting him .We want a nice one ..Sunday comes around and we seen maybe 4 doe ..So now its the 1st Monday after the opener and I have to go back to work ...grrrrrrrrr..Weather was nice So O Well ... Now its Saturday again . We wake up all excited to get back at it . We head up the hill to a huge unit on top where I can look down into this 3 or 4 year old unit ..After about 5 minutes of glassing at 1st light I look over to my left on a ridge and I think I see a deer ..He is about 200 yrds straight across from us .. I pick up my Bino's and Holy crap there he is !!!  A beautiful dark horned 4 pt ...Now you have to remember one thing , if you think its easy to take your wife hunting and try to keep your cool while u are trying to keep her cool , I have something to tell you ...hahaha I tell her there he is ..This deer just stands there and I can not get her to see him ...this went on for like 5 minutes ..I am getting all nerves he is going to take off So I tell her at least 5 x he will not stand there all day !!! Now she is getting peeeesed at me and things just go down hill from there ..Finally she does spot him as he walks up the ridge ...He is about 200 + and I tell her once you get him in your scope just breathe and calm down ...She says I am on him ! I tell her to take her time and squeeze squeeze and poooooow ! I seen the vapor line from her bullet go right over his back !!!!!!!!!!!  He takes 2 steps while she is ejecting the shell and steps over the ridge !!  I am sick !!! Literally about puked !!  Not joking ...he was a hog ! So now it is a whole day of disappointment , she is feeling sick and disgusted ..I tell her do not worry we will have another chance sooner or later ...

We wake up Sunday Morning ...head to the same exact unit thinking he will be back since he just walked off and was not spooked all that bad .. I glass for hours , turning every stump pile I could see inside and out and never seen him again .So we head down to the lower part of this unit . it is about 9:30 . We walk out a grade that has been dug up ..We sneak over to this Big Cedar stump and sit down . I take off my pack and start glassing ..Unit is grown up about 3 ft tall and just perfect ! I did not glass long when I see 3 white spots looking at me ...I focus in and see a White nose and 2 white patches on his neck !!!  Then a rack !!  Here we go again !!  haha I tell her to get up and shoot this buck ..he is about 100 yrds not moving an inches ..He is in front of that stump , do you see him ??  No !!  I tried for another 5 minutes to get her to spot him but no luck ! He finally had enough and moved up the ridge and then sky lined himself ..I see him , I see him ! I tell her do not until he gets down the hill and wait for him to stop ..he is following him perfectly waiting for him to stop !! He is about to go into a hole so I whistled !! Still would not stop !  I finally had to yell at him but again , he would not stop !!! THERE GOES ANOTHER ONE !!!!!!  This is the most intense season she has had in the last 3 years ..I finally told her that it is not always easy and do not let it get you down ..This is hunting ! Blacktail are brush deer and it takes a lot of time and experience to find them , not counting the fact killing them ! This is all part of hunting ! If it was easy none of use would do it ...But I must tell u by now I am seriously stressed !!  HAHA  3 BUCKS we seen and none in my truck ! Grrrrr !   This gets better now !!

Now ...its Tuesday again ! Had to work on Monday but now I am off until it ends ! I have a buddy hunting the same area we are and we keeps telling me to drive up into this upper unit..  Everyday I keep driving by it ..We all had our own spot we were hunting so I just decided it was his area ..So we meet up with him again and he ask me if I went up that road to the upper unit  .. I tell him NO !!! He just shook  his head and said I am telling you JB you better check it out ..Again I said I am heading back over where we seen the bucks ...Reason was because we seen bucks and he is seeing Doe ...hahaha  But he knows sooner or later seeing doe means seeing buck !!!!!!

My wife and I head down the hill about 11;30 am after BS ing with him !! We are sitting in this pit having lunch when my phone rings !!!  It him !!!  Hello ......JB JB I TOLD YOU , I TOLD YOU ....I JUST SHOT A HOG ...GET UP HERE NOW !!!!!  Yes he did !!!!! Just parked the truck and walked up a grade and as he was stuffing shells into his chamber he looks to his right and there he is ..looking right over a doe back ...he goes to take off and poooow ...lights out !

Now ....SHE IS REALLY PEESED I DID NOT LISTEN TO HIM !!!!  HAHAHA  Crazy hunting season we are having !! But I was having a ball ...Deer hunting has always been my # 1 thing , with turkey hunting being my second !

O.k So lets end this BS Session !

We hunted hard on Wednesday ..I looked at so much land and brush my eyes were about to pop out of my head ..Now I am starting to wonder if I can find her one more because we have already worn out time and luck of seeing the ones we seen ...

It is now Thurday morning ...we hunted all morning in just prime weather ..little windy and raining ..we seen 2 other rigs all morning and by Noon we had the whole mountain to ourselves ...We only seen about 8 doe up to this point and 3 bucks ..Not bad on the buck but doe count was low !  About 1 pm we start hitting all our spots again ..just hoping something will start to move ..By 2 pm we seen 11 doe ....now I am getting excited again ..no one around and deer are coming out ..at about 2:15 we decided to walk up a grade just below where my buddy killed the big one ..there was unit that went straight up hill and kinda rocky ...Little foggy but I could see pretty good ..we stop and lean against a stump and I start glassing , as I scan the timbers edge I see a tree violently jumping around ...then I see a deer ...can not tell how big but he was one peeeesed little sucker !!!  I finally tell my wife where it is and hand her my Bino's ..She instantly sees him ...he is all excited seeing him beat the crap out of this tree...Actually gave us enough time to think about it and pull herself together ...He has no idea we are there !! So I lay my pack on a stump ..he is up hill and she is rock solid on this stump ..I am thinking 200 again and telling her it does not matter , just hold the crosshairs steady and squeeze the trigger ...You can do it ! Just calm down and wait until you feel right ! He is still thrashing this tree ...he never witnessed this before so that made it more even sweeter !!  She finally says o.k I am on him ..I tell her deep breath , let a little out hold and squeeze ...POOOOOOOOOOOOOW !  WTH ???? You shot right over him ...he starts to the right ..she says I am still on him ..I tell her to take your time , he will stop again !!!!  Just as I put the binos up again to see whats going on ...POOOOOOOOOOOOOW AGAIN !!!  I just got him in the binos to see him hump up ...I said you got him !!!she is jumping all over the place ...As I looked up again he started down hill digging in hard and just cart wheels off the bank ..... That was a perfect ending right there !!  Not about how big the horns are !!! Its about spending time with family and friends and enjoying the great outdoors ...

The only thing weird about this is she killed a 4 pt in 2013   then a 3 pt in 2013 and now a 2 pt in 2015 ....hahahaha   7MM-08 Smokes another one !

Hopefully BH45 whack a nice one come bow season !!  pumped and ready to rock !
