Youth Yakima north cow tag
« on: November 04, 2015, 06:45:42 AM »
Going to look for elk with my ten year old son.  He drew a cow tag for the Yakima north units.  Gonna spend two days w my grandfather and the horses in the umtaneum.  Then to naches for a few more days.  His tag goes till the 15th.  Hoping the end of general season brings some live action.

My son also drew that tag and we will more than likely start in the 346. Heading over the 10-15th.

My 11 year old son has the same tag. We hunted 346 last weekend, he had cows in his sights two times but could not get a clear shot. Even if he had a clear shot if would have been difficult due to ELK FEVER. This is his first elk hunt. We are headed back up on Wednesday and plan on staying through Sunday. It has been a learning experience for both of us. He was able to connect on a whitetail doe in Spokane earlier this year, he was stoked. Hopefully we can get back into some elk. Good luck to the youths that are hunting this week.

There were quite a few elk moving into 342 at the end of the week. I filled my cow tag in there on Friday.

Thanks for the info Antlershed. I have not hunted the 342 before but I might have to check it out.

Congrats to you and the son!

Only seen a few on our trip.  No shots.  Leaving Wednesday morning till Thursday at dark for one last look.  I hardly know the unit.  Any info would be great.  We camped up the 1902.  Hunted the timber w fresh sign.  The kid can't hike too far.  But we did have a blast.  Thanks for the offer to help and hopefully we connect.

Bob

So we got after it and seen some elk.  The kid had a shot at twenty yards and didn't relize he could shot through the twigs.  He was super excited when he seen how big cows are.  That didn't help either.  Good tag but tough w a young kid.  Congrats to all youth that filled it.  Great accomplishment.
