Target repair with "Great Stuff"

My target has seen better days and was getting pretty thin in the middle to where the arrows would pass through.  I took a can of "Great Stuff" expandable foam and shot it into every crevice and hole that I could fit the nozzle into and it worked like a dream!  The foam expanded, filled, and tightened up my target, should last the rest of this season if not longer.  Had to trim the excess off of the front after it dried.  My target is made of the layered black plastic foam.

When you do this it really helps to wrap the target with plastic wrap after you spray foam.  Then lay target flat with flat heavy weight on it.  It will keep the foam inside target and will be a little tighter foam.

3d targets are a little tougher fix.

its the glen del so the center removes (obviously haha) I have repaired it with duct tape, electrical tape, so I may play with this to see how it works (I know I can buy the replacement section but my methods have been cheaper haha) but yeah if I had a high quality 3d target I can see how that may be tougher for sure.

I have a couple of older 3d targets that I repaired. If the center is badly shot up Drock is right on the money. Mine weret quite as hammered. I used CHEEP walmart silicone. I would stuff the nozzel into the target and start pumping. When it was oozing out the fill hole id move to another location. Then I put it in the laundry room and cranked the space heater up for a few days. It really locked up the shotup insides and I was even able to coat the outside to smooth out the body. Down side is arrows are much harder to pull. Good for backyard practice not so much for tournament 3d.

Does the same apply for block targets? Mine is before they started using the layered targets

I would imagine it would work for any lind of foam target.  I personally think bag targets are the way to go for most practice.

If you're doing block targets foam is the way to go.  5 or 6 bucks for a can of foam will get you another year or two out of a target.  The big key is don't wait to long you want as much of the original target saved as you can.

Thats a really great point. Great Stuff is a better binder to hold the shot up stuff together than it makes a good arrow stopper. you wait too long and the GOOD foam will be on the ground and not stopping your arrow. Just remeber HEAT is necessary for the foam in a can to harden and cure.

Great Stuff cures faster under conditions of high humidity, you can even mist it with water to get it to skin over and to cure faster.
