Hey guys, having some issues with the steering on my center console. With the wealth of knowledge here on the forum I figured maybe someone on the forum has run across this same issue and could give me a little advice. I really appreciate it. So I have an 18' Smokercraft Sporstman with a center console, with a 50hp Yamaha and matching 8hp kicker. My last trip out on the water I noticed a clicking sound when I turned really sharp, it sounded like something rubbing on the metal inside the box under the steering wheel. I opened the door under the steering column and noticed what looks like a worm drive/cable of some sort working its way out of the steering box and it is in fact hitting the wall inside. I will attach a few pictures. I'd really like to make the repair myself but can't turn anything up on YouTube on how to repair it. The last time I had an issue I took the boat into the mechanic, he said it would cost about 500$ and when I picked it up he slapped me with a 1200$ tab and never called to let me know it would be more. Needless to say I'd like to avoid that again. Hoping to get out this next weekend and don't want to leave it like it is now in case it works it's way all the way out or seizes up and leaves us relying on the kicker. Maybe I'm just not typing in the correct verbiage on YouTube? Correct whatever I put above if you know the correct terms and I may be able to find something. Thank you ahead of time for any advice/experiences you may have here.
