Sportsman Channel, Upfront Outfitters
« on: December 15, 2015, 10:32:14 AM »
I just signed up to get this channel today because the show at noon is Washington State Roosevelt's.
I know Mike Jenkins of Upfront Outfitters, and respect him.
I also think Fred Eichler is a great guy.
If I would have known he was in Mike's camp, I would have made a visit.
After all the negative publicity of other hunting celebrities, I am actually looking forward to seeing an honest representation of a "True" Roosevelt hunt in Washington.
And, yes it is west of I-5 where they hunt.
Although I wont know if they got one until watching.

I think that episode was on this past weekend; I won't spoil it for ya. He seems like a nice and honest person.

I enjoyed the show, Mike is a very nice guy, and nothing but a good guy in my dealings with him.

From a half hour show, and about 20 minutes of actual footage, it seems like both the outfitter and the hunter are decent guys.  What is so distasteful to me about this show, as with any other hunting show on TV, is it is nothing but one half hour long advertisement, in this case for Ford trucks.  I understand some of the show sponsors want some airtime, but this was just so blatantly a commercial for Ford that it just takes the enjoyment out of watching these shows for me.  What else do you want to see about a Ford?   We had the tailgate step system, bed lights with switch in the bed, folding mirrors, ground illumination lights under the mirrors, and of course, the power outlet, just to name a few.  Clearly to go Roosevelt Elk hunting without this truck is futile.

I will say that at least this show had footage of guys actually hunting instead of a "hunter" (shooter) sitting in a box blind, playing games on their i-phone, waiting for the bucks to show up to eat whatever deer feed product they pile up on the ground in front of the blind, then shooting a deer after about 20 minutes in the blind.  TV, including the outdoor channels, is just such junk these days that I can only stand about 8 minutes per day.

I digress...

Though I do agree it did seem like a long Ford commercial, I still enjoyed the show.
I would not have watched it myself if I did not know Mike.
And it was an accurate representation of the difficulties of hunting Roosevelt's west of I-5,
I also know that during second week of Archery season Mike had 3 clients arrive in camp driving a rental minivan that stayed parked during their visit, while I had 2 flat tires, and threw out a U-joint on my jeep in the same area.
You might not need a Ford, but you do need decent tires.
