leveling kit on pick up
« on: December 28, 2015, 05:41:55 PM »
second question. 2015 2500HD chev truck. I asked Les Schwab about front leveling kit, and bigger tires. Rancho site states that the kits go on "easy" and maintain stock ride feel. The Les Schwab guy says NO WAY, any lift on torsion bar front end is going to effect ride!!!
Which is it???

Just did my F150 with a hell bent spacer and the ride is the same. I did the Les schwabs version on my previous f150 but also went from a p tire to a LT tire and it was a lot stiffer ride. I think the tire change is the difference in most cases

Cognito has some of the nicest leveling kits for those trucks.   Give them a look.  And yes your ride will feel different when messing with the torsion bars.

If the leveling kit uses the torsion bar to raise the ride height of the truck then the ride will feel stiffer since you are putting more preload on the torsion bar.

It will change the ride for sure.   :yeah:  and alignment as well.  If you were making a 1/4 or 1/2 inch adjustment, it probably wouldn't be a big deal, but most people are looking for 1-3 inches, which will make the ride significantly stiffer.  I explored the subject a lot for a torsion bar front end and decided to skip it, due to the ride.

In addition to the rougher ride, you'll also wear out ball joints and other steering components faster. Also, cv boots tend to rip easier due to tge increased angle caused by the level.

There is no such thing as a cheap leveling kit, they end up costing you in the end.

I have had a leveling kit on a 2008 chevy 1500 4x4 silverado since new with 32-35 inch tires and nothing has worn out other than tires and of course any other normal maintenance items from normal wear and tear.My mother is a service adviser at a Chevrolet dealer and i have my truck in for an oil change and inspection every 4000 miles.I almost forgot that i put 100,000 miles on the 2006 that i traded in on the 08 and nothing more than normal and customary items wore out and yes the ride stiffens a little bit. It feels like a truck not an SUV.

I have the " PORK CHOP Lift " on my '13 Duramax and IT DOES make it stiffer. But, not much to make a difference to me. It raised my up about 1 inch and it rubs my 285x70x17 tires just a tiny bit on my mudflats..
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............
