Solder locations for W80?

Can someone modify this pic with the exact solder locations and wire colors?  Much appreciated.  This small stuff will test your eyesight!  :o

The W80 and W90 have the same shutter board. Read page 16 of the homebrew thread. There is a picture with solder connections there.

Bow4elk,

Just a friendly reminder to make sure that you drill your holes in the body and run your wires through it before you solder them to your shutter assembly. :bash: :bash:

I just heard of someone forgetting to do that before.   :bash: :bash: :bash:

Actually you don't drill the hole in the side until after you solder them and put the camera back together.  It was the last piece put back on the camera.

I use servo's so I have a quick disconnect from the case.

Shawn,  We connect the wires to the servo after the camera is back together. I will get pics and info for you on the external power for these cameras soon.

Fred, I am working on the W200 that my son brought to me yesterday. I already put a new LCD in this camera. I am going to experiment with a different method of getting the wires out of this camera. It is  much harder to get the wires out of a 200 than it is on an 80 or 90. I am going to remove the microphone from the shutter board. This it not practical in a trail cam any way. If you set the camera for video clips, the microphone is inside the case, and there is no sound any way. I will take the wires right out through the micro phone opening on top of the shutter assembly. Then the wires that come with the servo will be long enough.
I will still cut the servo off and reattach it after the shutter assembly is back together. The servo will be glued to the top of the shutter assembly. When you place the assembly back on the camera, the wiring and servo will be finished. I showed Grizzly how to mount the servo on the top of the W55. The telephone extension cable that I forgot to bring yesterday is small and flat. This will turn and go down the left side of the camera and cross under the angle. You can put a washer on the thumbscrew to hold it up in place. Then it crosses the case hinge and connects to the board. I will post pics of this when it is done. This will work for the 80 and 90 also.

Bob,

Thanks.  I have it hacked already.  I thought those were the connections but I wasn't sure.  It might be good to post it anyways for the others.

I use pre-made servo's.

I am working on a W200. The wires are hard to get out of this camera because there is not as much room inside the case as the W80 and W90.  I decided to remove the microphone from the shutter board and see if I could take the wires out the small holes for the microphone. This worked very well for my 200, so I decided to try it on a spare shutter assembly that I had for a W80.
I wish I had thought of this long ago because this is the easiest way to do these cameras.
The microphone is not attached to the board, it just lays there, There is a hole in the board behind the microphone. The wires go through that hole and they are soldered to the backside of the board. Clip the wires as close to the solder pads as possible. You can just thread the wires on the Yeti servo through the microphone holes and then solder them to the pads. The wires will have to be cut because they are too long. The red wire will be about 3/4" shorter. Run the wires toward the hole where the microphone was, and then bend them upwards. Pull the slack out of the wires as you seat the board. The assembly goes together much easier with the wires routed this way. I left my toolbox at work with my soldering irons in them today. Tomorrow night I will post pics that show how to mount the servo on top of the camera, and how to run the cable to the control board.

Very nice Bob.  I am about to take mine apart again because the white wire is not working.  I think I route it out that way.  Very good idea!!

Very nice Bob.  I am about to take mine apart again because the white wire is not working.

I know I was having trouble with pinching my wires under the shutter button.  It took my fourth try on two W90's before I figured out what was going on.  When I looked at my wires they were a little smashed.

Bob,

Great idea.  I got my parts from yeti today and got my official first build done tonight.  I can't say enough how grateful I am of all your assistance.  This is going to be a blast for years to come.  Here are some pics of my first official build.  The Nikon doesn't count since I just slammed in a box once I broke it.  I have noticed on a test pic that I'll have to bevel the extension down a bit because it's causing a shadow on the bottom of the pic.  There goes my paint job!!!

Thanks again,

Shawn

Tonight, I am finishing up my W200. I took the wires out the microphone opening, and I mounted the servo on top of the camera. I took pictures of these steps and I will post them tomorrow night. I really like this better than having the servo on the side of the camera. Grizzly 95, this is how you need to do your camera also.
