Maybe I am missing something, but I just both bills in their entirety, and I am not so sure that I disagree with HB 1747. As responsible gun owners who want to keep our rights, shouldn't we be for penalizing the idiotic non-responsible ones? There is nothing in the bill that states how you have to store your firearms, and you cannot be prosecuted if your guns are kept in a safe, or locked up with a trigger guard, etc. There is nothing in the bill that says LE may come and inspect how your firearms are stored. 3 years ago, I kept a pistol in my nightstand drawer, often times with one in the chamber. Then my son was born. I now have a small safe in the bedroom for my pistol, and a large safe for all the other guns. My two year old is very interested in what guns are when he sees me carrying one out the door to go hunting, shooting, etc. If one was left unattended, there is no doubt in my mind he would pick it up. It's really not that hard to take precautions (gun safe) to make sure that never happens.Maybe I'm way out in left field though...
There is nothing in 1747 that says you have to store your firearms in a safe, but rather offers immunity if you do. After further thinking, it would be your word against theirs if you had your guns locked up and a minor got one and used it in a crime. That is why I now oppose this bill.
