I don't think Jake would mind me jumping in here.
It's had been nearly 25 years since Jake and I had been out setting traps together, it sure was fun talking about old times. The years really go by fast.
In western WA marten are generally found between about 3000' and timberline. We were in mature pacific silver fir and some mountain hemlock, with a few old growth tree scattered in the stand, if you are in Douglas fir you won't find marten. The main thing is to set on tracks and try to protect the traps from the elements as well as possible, beaver for bait.

I have seen that set on youtube.  The guy said make sure the cage doesn't move around.

I experimented a little with a running pole set for civets with a cage. Gave it up for the pipe traps but I found that the best way to stabilize a small cage was to nail two poles to a small tree on each side of it. Then I could slip a wire through the cage on each pole. Seemed really stable.
