Worn out Ruger 10-22
« on: February 15, 2016, 01:32:03 PM »
A buddy of mine has a ruger 10-22 with  tens of thousands of rounds through it. He rebarreled it a while back, but now it keeps jamming. Its a pretty stock rifle. Is it more cost effective to just buy a new one? Would a new BCG make a big difference?  Any pointers or places/sites/videos to help make the assessment?

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Rimfirecentral.com is a good resource. You can pretty much buy everything for it and rebuild it. Most of the internal parts are cheap enough. He could build a completely new custom 10-22 if he wanted too. The most expensive thing is the barrel.

It's the reciver is worn out if he looks at the hole where the mag goes in to the front
He will see it oblong ( most of the time from 25 rd mags ) you can epoxy it but will not last long ! Time for a new reciver
This place protected by God and Guns trespass and you might get to meet Both !

Change the recoil spring assembly. Had a similar problem with mine.

It looks like you can replace all the springs pretty cheep $10 and get a new firing pin and extractor for another $30. Ill have to head over to his place and take a closer look and strip down his rifle to see whats up.

I sent a 30 year old Ruger Mark II back to the factory and they fixed it right up.   You might consider sending it back to Ruger for a "make it new" fix.
