trailer length
« on: February 25, 2016, 11:08:04 AM »
I just aquired a 12' aluminum Gamefisher boat from my grandpa but it does not have a trailer with it.  I am not sure what length of trailer I should get.  Google search says to get on 10% longer than the boat.  Just looking for advice from you guys before I buy one.  Does 13' trailer sound right to you?  Thanks for the help!

To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Bunk or roller trailer?  It makes a difference but what you don’t want with either is to have the stern sticking out unsupported.  The bunk or the last roller should be under the transom and supporting its weight to prevent a “hook” from developing –

Not sure if I explained that well enough but the key is to support the transom.

Exactly this.  A boat this size should be on bunks, and ANY aluminum boat should be on bunks, IMHO.  All it takes is one really bad road between the highway and the fishin' hole to have the rollers beat up your aluminum boat's bottom.

I like about 3' from the winch to the hitch, so about 15' over all length. Besides a longer trailer backs easier.

Thanks for all the advice guys.  That is stuff I wouldn't ever have thought of.
Buckmark - have you tried one of those trailers? I didn't like the idea of 8" tires.  Looking for 12" tires for longer road trips.
