First Look: Ruger BX-Trigger for 10/22
by RifleShooter Online Staff
December 16th, 2014

Ruger_BX_Trigger_FRuger has announced the launch of a new drop-in replacement trigger assembly for all Ruger 10/22 rifles and Ruger 22 Charger pistols.

The new Ruger BX-Trigger reduces the trigger pull weight from the factory-standard 6 pounds to a light and crisp pull of between 2.50 and 2.75 pounds.

“We have made continuous improvements to the 10/22 over the years, but the BX-Trigger is an exciting performance advancement,” said Ruger President and COO, Chris Killoy. “The BX-Trigger was designed for easy installation, superior performance, and legendary Ruger reliability. Like the popular BX-25 magazine for the 10/22, the BX-Trigger will deliver the excellence and value that shooters have come to expect from Ruger.”

The BX-Trigger is a genuine Ruger factory accessory and is sold as a complete assembly that drops in to replace the previous trigger assembly. Swapping in the new assembly requires no adjustment or fitting. It will be packaged with a dry-fire block for customers to test at retail locations.

The new Ruger BX-Trigger will be available for an estimated price of $89.95 directly from Ruger and at local independent firearms retailers beginning December 19.

Curious to know if anyone has any direct experience with this trigger assembly??

I picked one of these up last year. It is noticeably better than the factory trigger. But, for the money, I cannot recommend this trigger assembly. It took me hours of filing and sanding to get a 3 lb trigger pull. there is no adjustable sear or overtravel adjustment. For just a few more bucks, you can get KIDD internals for your 10-22 trigger group and have a 2 lb trigger with an adjustable sear, and overtravel!!  Or you could send your trigger group and a Benjamin to Brimstone Gunsmithing in Yacolt WA and get a very clean crisp 2 lb trigger group with no creep and an overtravel adjustment.  :twocents:

I agree with Carbide. Spend a little more for a Kidd , Volquartsen or have Brimstone rework your existing.

I looked at Brimstone. Looks like there's a few options. I kind of like the $40 option, but the $80 option is really interesting with upgraded parts. I just bought a VQ target hammer kit and am thinking about trying that myself. I've got 2 rifles and a charger, so doing 1 DIY for an experiment is something I'd like to at least try.

Installing the VQ trigger parts is easy , just have to remember the way it all came out ( YouTube helps ). While you have it apart Chuck up the trigger return plunger in a drill and radius the face that rides on the trigger , causes less drag . Than while you have it all apart throw in a VQ trigger with the over travel screw , than might as well do the bolt release mod  :chuckle:. There's no stopping once you start modding a 10/22.  I started with a 10/22 stainless , bull barreled target edition ($500 new ) . Another $1400 later the only part left of the original rifle was the action ( and that was sent off to CPC for his magic ).

I agree with huntandjeep. The ruger trigger is easy to take apart and put back together. it will be fun for you to play with. I have a factory trigger group that I played with too much? I filed it too much and it the hammer breaks when the safety is released! :yike: oops. I also have a Brimstone Tier 1 trigger for one of my 10-22. It is pretty sweet. no creep and no overtravel. I asked for a 2lb trigger, and the note I got from them when they shipped my trigger group back said the trigger broke at 2.2 lbs. I have friends with other brands of trigger groups, and we have compared the triggers side by side. My friends were mad when they found out the price of the Brimstone trigger because they paid more money for their trigger groups and the Brimstone was hands down the better trigger group. I have compared the Brimstone tier one trigger to a timney, and volquartsen. Both of those are over two hundred bucks for a trigger group. the timney and the volquartsen are nice triggers, and a huge upgrade to the factory trigger, but in a side by side comparison, the Brimstone tier one trigger was the hands down winner, and that was the opinions of two guys who spent over two hundred bucks for triggers and thought they had an awesome trigger.....til they tried the Brimstone.  :chuckle: that being said, my next build, which is currently a work in progress will have the KIDD "trigger job" trigger parts installed in the factory trigger group. I have some other KIDD parts that In my opinion are really high quality for the price.  :twocents:

Volquartzen target hammer with bushings.  $30-40 and 15 minutes of your time.  Smooth 2-3 lb pull.

That's what I bought. Just need to decide if it's going in a rifle or a pistol.

Well, to be fair, it was the decision of which one to do first.
