Poop eating deterrent
« on: March 29, 2016, 06:25:37 AM »
Newest pup has developed a taste for eating the other dogs poop :puke: :puke:
Have tried the pills and bitter spray, but neither are working. Going to try covering the piles with cayenne pepper next... Heard this works   :dunno:

Anybody have a cure for this that has worked for your dog?

Just don't eat it.

Sorry.  I couldn't help myself.  I denounce myself.

I forget exactly what it's called but have you tried the treats for the OTHER dogs? Supposed to make their own poo taste horrible (as if it doesn't already lol) but we got the cat version and it worked. Sprinkled in cat food, cat eats it,  digests into a way that made the cat poo less attractive to our dogs that liked kitty-roca.

If you can find it a powdered enzyme product  called Forbid you sprinkle on ALL the dogs food and it should stop the coprography.  It is a fairly common occurrence often out grown in pups and permanent in females who have had litters.

Feeding the dogs pineapple will do the same thing.  Guess it makes poop taste worse than s**t.

I have found this to be an issue when you have two dogs eating two different types of food. If they eat the same food it usually stops the issue.

How do you solve to problem for now? Pick up the other dogs poop before the pup can eat it. If you are going to go through the trouble of finding it and putting pepper on it. You might as well just clean it up.

My vet recommend using ADOLPH'S Meat tenderizer.
Just sprinkle it on the dogs food.  It took a couple of days and used it for a week and it cured him, never did it again

Get some mouse traps and use the poop it eats and put it on the traps. Wont take long for the dog to associate trying to the poop as a bad thing.

Meat tenderizer is mostly salt.  I'd be concerned with potential salt poisoning.  http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/toxicology/salt_toxicity/overview_of_salt_toxicity.html

Lol. Got that one covered.
Adolphs= Salt, surprised your vet recommended that.
Cayenne is working so far,
I like the mouse trap idea too.

We have 3 labs, all are on different foods, makes sense that the others crap may taste good. Trying to keep it picked up faster than the little one finds/eats is challenging. She is almost eating it from the tap sometimes  :yike:

Puppies will eat poop. This is a battle that you will fight forever. My dog one ate so much sheep poop that she got a virus and had to go on antibiotics. It should go away as the dogs get older but that is not always the case. We have a miniature Australian Shepard and when we feed him some high end little dog food the big dogs would eat his poop every day. Must still smell like dog food. So, we switched his food to the same as the big dogs and now the poop is there waiting fro me to pick it up.

I'm sure there are a million different cures for this that can be found on the internet. I hope you find one that works.
