Jet pump
« on: April 17, 2016, 10:39:47 PM »
I don't know where I would post this... I am looking for a 90/65 or a 115 jet I have a 2004 75 2 stroke Yamaha tiller. The motor is is perfect condition, turn the key and runs amazing!!! I really want to start getting on the rivers and do a lot of hunting in shallow water and would like to run a pump! If anyone is Intrested in trading I have some cash on top. If not I do have some money set aside for a decent motor. Thanks to all!!!

I would contact :

Three rivers marine
Stevens marine (Tigard)
Pacific Boat land in  Vancouver
Auburn Marine

They might get a scrap motor or be able to help you out...used pumps are not that easy to find...I assume you know you can but a new pump .

Have you thought about a pump install on your 75 hp also you could find a used pump and rebuild it. Pretty simple to rebuild

sorry I misread I thought you were looking for a pump for your 75 2 stroke.... remember the "30 %" loss rule when going to a jet..... finding a a complete "used jet" motor should not be that much of a problem...I would try those dealers for sure...

I have thought about just putting a pump in the motor I have now because I know how reliable it is but I do know it will be about a 45-50 instead of a 75. The boat is a 1756 Lowe flat bottom. I will contact those guys for sure and see if they have any deals!!! Thanks for the info guys!

I had a center console 1860 Smokercraft flat bottom with a 90 hp (65 jet) Yamaha 2 stroke and if memory  serves me right it was plenty of motor for the small rivers with 3-4 guys in it if that helps any. I do not think I ever had more than 4 adults in it..typically it was 3 of us.

I used it on thee Columbia as well for springers .

That does help a lot, I have been looking at the new Mercury 90/65's and have been debating on it, how was your hole shot? I just don't want to be under powered. I would much rather have a little more power rather than not enough. Thanks!

keep in mind if you go to a 4 stroke you will definitely loose some "hole shot" but depending on the power/boat you might be ok ..for instance:

I had a 20 ft Super V with a 6 degree bottom, bought new with a 200 Merc 2 stroke with the "big pump" on it...plenty of power and great hole shot...LOUD

I repowered the boat 2 years ago with a Merc 150 4 stroke with the oversize pump as well.... I did loose some hole shot but I was pleasantly surprised with the performance....I just made sure I had boat loaded evenly and tried not to take off in "to skinny" of water...boat still performed well with 5 adults in it.  Basically I juts got used to it and after a few trips it seemed like it had been that way forever.

One of my guide buddies runs a newer Smokercraft 1860  flat bottom with the Merc 4 stroke 115 on it and it does him just fine so I think you would like the  motor....you just get used to it like everything else.

You won't be happy with a 90/65....check out outboard jets website and in the facts they show you what weight per power you need to plane. Don't skimp as you won't be happy...
