Prawn opener

Today was the prawn opener.  Great fun and only had to wait 1 hour at the boat launch and I seen days where it was worse.

We started out at Hamma and last year pulled full limits in each pot. This year? Same spot but had to re-set twice to limit. Just a reminder even the guaranteed spots are not always money. I heard guys on VHF 68 and 69 saying they were struggling and some hit the bio mass.

Nice shrimp

It was a zoo, my suggestion anyone who launched at Camano Island State park. DONT on WED its gonna suck worse because all the big trucks and construction will be going on and our entire road to the launch will be one lane and full of backhoes and dump trucks and trenching.

We scored our limits in Disco Bay. No big hauls but consistent 25-35/pot. Shrimping is always a fun day on the water. No chance for 'Buts though, it was sloppy conditions in the outside waters.

Holy Cow there were a lot of boats out today.  I must have seen 100+ when I ran this morning.  I love me some Spot Prawns, wish I had a boat this time of year.

I'm glad I waited for tomorrow.  I had to run to town to pick up my daughter today, oh man was it sloppy in Rosario.  Goof luck to those going out tomorrow.

We had one pot with 40, reset and put three more in the same are and ended up with 3-12 per pot.  It was real tough for us this year even moving all around and different depths.  Anything under 300 feet was a total bust.

Shrimping was good for us out of Brinnon. My boat filled 7 limits in 2 pulls of 4 pots. Had 1 pot with 6 shrimp. 1 pot with 30. The rest were much better. I think my brother in law did a little better than that. 250 to 270 feet was the best depth. A little break. Then headed back for Memorial weekend with lots of family. Hoping shrimping is just as good!

I had a buddy who said anything over 250 was a bust.  He was more up north of Seabeck though.

Always a good time!  We were in MA10.  Averaged 50-60 on the first set (45 minute soaks) and had the first crew back to the dock about 8:45.  It slowed a bit after that, more like 20-25 per pot, but still wound up with 8 limits.  My main spot has gotten more and more crowded each year, so I did some test drops in new spots later in the day.  Makes me think there are shrimp just about everywhere.  Find 200-300', a shelf and drop off, and there will be shrimp there.  Heck, I'm not even sure you need much of a drop off.

We went out both Saturday and Sunday.  Got about 225 total for the two days, for 4 people.  It was a very rough 2 days, especially on an 18' boat.  You know the seas are bad when the boat owner, who's been doing this for 25+ years did some chumming on Saturday  :chuckle:  I'm just glad I dosed up on dramamine.  It was a great time for my first ever shrimping trip though.
