yakima river
« on: May 25, 2016, 09:23:06 PM »
Well that's a little depressing. It sure don't look like they are going to open the upper river. :bash: Has anybody had much luck on the lower section?

Like the Rosa slaughterfest? Is that the lower river?

Clarify, the upper river has never been open for Chinook and is catch and release for everything else except winter white fish.

This.
Great trout fishing though in some pretty scenery.

So I guess I should correct myself. I usually consider yakima to Rosa dam upper since they call prosser to the mouth the lower. I know they don't open the Rosa to CleElum portion. Since they spawn near CleElum. I believe they truck most of the fish up from the dam to the spawning grounds. But the counts are low. They get a good average of 8 to 10 thousand fish on good years. They only expect around 4,000 fish and might not get that. They call it the Rosa slaughtfest because the fish have a hard time getting over Rosa dam and they pile up below. Everybody in yakima shows up to fish 500 ft below the dam.

As far as I knew it is/was open. At least people were posting pics of 3 fish limits @Rosa awhile back...

huh? This is news to me, the river isn't open up there as far as I know and I've never heard of it being a 3 fish limit at that.

Pretty certain it's only open to Prosser and it should only be 1 adult fish.

I reckon I'm wrong. A bit late in the game regardless
