Jameson Lake is considered one of the best fishing lakes in the state. The lake was stocked with 160,780 hatchery trout fry in the spring of 2000. Best fishing is usually April and May and the whole month of October. The season is opening day of April thru July 4, and then Oct. 1 thru 31. Jameson has some large carry over rainbows and some Lahontans that came over from Grimes Lake when it overflowed into Jameson a couple of years back. June and July slows considerably because of the lake blooming. There are two resorts on the lake: Jameson Lake resort at the north end and Jack's resort at the south end (by the primitive campground). You can reach both Jameson Lake and Grimes Lake from the Jameson Lake resort. The primitive campground offers no amenities at all. No trash, water or power. Pack it out with you. Come prepared. The road going to Jameson is gravel and wash board in places, but is well maintained. Fishing from anywhere on the bank and lake trolling, plus fly fishing provide the best results. The wind can come up unexpectedly and drive
you off the lake.

The last couple years fishing hasn't been very good.. The lake also gets an algae bloom in the summer.  Fish quality has been poor.  I would suggest you go to Roosevelt or Rufus Woods.  Cold water trout..better eating fish too.  Jameson can be fun when fishing is good.
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!

Jameson Lake is good for little trout (10"-12") you will catch about 10 before you get a good one  (16"+). I like to anchor by the cliffs between resorts. It is a zoo for first opener but not as bad for second (Oct. 1st) I especially like going there and camping at the resort at the north end and fishing Grimes.Grimes Lake opens June 1st for Lahontan Cutthroat. I use a large Steeli-spoon or large spinner. Silver early and brass when the sun gets on the water. Anything with a little orange will catch fish. No bait, single barbless hook, no outboards (electric O.K.). you can keep one but unless you soak the alkali out of the meat they taste like mud. We usually get at least 10 to the boat apiece (3 guys) before the wind drives us off the lake and they average 20"-26". They fight like Chum so they are perfect for taking kids fishing.
