It's a crying shame a city the size of Seattle no longer has an active pointing dog club.  I live in Tacoma but still belong to PortVan (Portland/Vancouver) pointing dog club, even after ten years living in Tacoma, because there is no other option for monthly fun shoots like we have there, that I know of at least. :bash:  So, I end up driving all the way down to Scappoose, OR once a month from March through July just to get my dog on some birds.  We just had a fun trial yesterday and it was a great time.   My setter absolutely loves it.
I agree.

Isn't the Greater Seattle Area Bird Dog Association still getting together?

No, not that I'm aware of.

Times change, hobbies differ as generations pass. Little boys don't grow up wanting to be Roy Rodgers anymore. Most close farms are now ant hill style housing tracts, and the farmers that will allow you on their land want decent money to train on their property now. It's how it goes.

There are still quite a few people with gun dogs around; most either train by themselves or travel to do it though...

Dang.  You had me at "Seattle", but I'm in...Seattle.  Looking for someone in town to train with and stay sharp during the week.  Lots of guys in the Snohomish/Monroe area.  I go out there on weekends to meet with some guys.  Don't get too paranoid from people telling you what not to do.  I'm on my first bird dog, two years in, and he's doing great.  He plays with toys at home, knows how to sit, and is babied by my wife and daughters.  He's also a bird machine in the fall and titled Senior hunter, working on his Master.  If I can do it anyone can.  They're smarter than you think and can tell the difference.  Good luck.
