Yes,  in my opinion its one of the best units in the state to get away from people. And yes its thick in places but thats what those Big Old Bulls like. Think steep and deep to get your bigger bulls. You can PM me if you want to get some more information its free.Lol
Good luck on all your hunting adventures

Thursday evening pull into camp around 8:00pm as we pull into our camp area we had a herd of 9-10 in the meadow near where I camp pretty cool to see . Thursday night needed up being nasty weather windy and raining cats and dogs . We just set up the tent made a fire and enjoyed the fire from the tent. Friday morning we wake up and saddle up for a 10 mile day checking the 2 cameras I have set up and setting up 3 more . First camera yielded a great bull with potential and about 15-20 cows the second camera was a big 0 I had it set to high and didn't catch a single thing .... Damnit my fault for not doin a test . We find great new areas for the 3 new cameras and set them up ! We also explored the unit and found a plan b and a plan c ! I couldn't be more excited for September !! Please follow my
Journey to knocking down my first bull !!

Nice looking bull.  I checked cameras today too over there. Since I'll be hunting general archery my bar is set a bit lower.  Lol.

One things for sure! That little spike would be some fine table fare.

Don't pass up the bull you posted!  That is a decent bull for the unit. He should be a small 6 by the time he finishes or a big 5.

Ya I hear ya man that's seems to be the script for him a lot of people are telling me he's gonna be just a crab claw of a 6 or a nice 5 . But either way I think I'd shoot him . I just want a solid bull that represents hard work and dedication and does the unit well you know .

A fire would be a great thing for habitat in the long run! A lot of the area (especially the wilderness) is so thick that no food sources are left! It'd be great to see a few fires be managed for habitat instead of suppressing all of them!

The fire last year did great things in making habitat even though it was caused by a human.

I don't know that unit, so I can't comment in particular, but the eastside GMUs do have the advantage of fires.  I agree with you, forest fires can really improve habitat.  The westside suffers from this---because the forest circus no longer logs in much of the Olympic forest, and because no fires can survive there, and now because they are planning to dig up the fire roads, the forest has become almost unhuntable.  It is ironic, but I envy those who hunt the fire-prone eastside.

pd, the bumping unit never burns. When there is fires, the "officials" say suppress them all due to politics. We don't get the big fires like up north does.  Next time you drive over Chinook Pass, you will see the loss of habitat I am taliking about. Maybe one day something will go big and it will be very beneficial to elk hunting when it does.

Nachos, thanks for that.  I have always marveled at the glorious view of Bumping after cresting the pass, looking to the SE.  That is a beautiful, verdant valley.  I am just a traveler, never once having put boots into that forest.  But, now that you mention it, it really would be impossible to hunt in there.  I fully understand what you mean.
