Scouting for Late Teanaway buck
« on: June 11, 2016, 09:32:41 PM »
I'm curious if anyone has any pointers for scouting a migration hunt. Ive been in school my whole life so Ive never got a chance for that hunt. I have a family member who drew the tag this year and I want to help them out. When scouting for this should I focus on where the local herds hangout and expect the migratory bucks to move down in to there? or use google maps and look for plausible migration routes? Thanks for any advise, have a great summer.

Never hunted late buck up there but we took some dandies off of horseback back in the 80's

I would Google and drive the roads prior to the hunt.  Once the season arrives, use what you've learned combined with snow depth to decide if you want to hunt higher elevation migration routes or the winter feeding grounds where the does and young bucks are.  The rut will bring the big boys in as they form harems in early November anyway but snow really helps.

I would first start by scouting up on the ridges (driving the road)... When it gets around to your season I would go on lambert road... If u don't have any permission to hunt the fields that is. There is a pa of state land back in there just behind the white post.. Same deer u see up on the hills/ridges are gonna be the ones down in the valley in the winter...
