Winchester XPR
« on: June 18, 2016, 06:55:08 PM »
Well I aquired a Winchester XPR  in .338 win mag recently and just wanted to share some thoughts on it, first off I am not in love with the stock, the grippy parts just arent grippy enough for me. I might try a flat ceracote there and see if that improves.
This is my second .338 win mag and I believe the recoil pad on this one is far and away better at harnessing the recoil and the stock while plastic seems a little stiffer than my Savage though nowhere near as nice as my Weatherby Vanguard. As far as performance goes I took it out on the 200 yd range and with the package Nikon 3-9 with long range hunting BDC reticle I was on paper right off the bat. I was shooting off a bipod and my 3 shot groups were consistently 2 rds within 1" and a flyer. I blame myself because things got better as I kept firing but I only had 20 rds and they were reloads from my previous rifle, I am just starting to explore beyond basic reloading techniques so I expect much better things from this rifle (myself). all in all I think I made a good tradeand am looking forward to more range time and eventually field time.
That which does not kill me should've had a better plan
