crabbing last weekend, returned to ramp, and some *censored* had backed into my truck bed, and really creased the sidebed. 2 witnesses got look at the truck, but no license plate number.. appraiser said total will be called.. people suck. its a small local area, I have a description of the truck and will find it, they will eventually return when they think coast is clear.. real sad part of the whole deal is that it was my grandfathers rig, he gave to me when he passed. I have strong attachment to it...

Sorry to hear about your loss there brother.  I do know one thing,... you are a persistent fella, so I'm sure the owners/operators of that other truck are in for a little surprise real soon and sure they "selected the wrong fella" to just drive off one.  Good Luck.!!

Hey Birddogdad, what about that description? You know I live real close to there, and I have a neighbor who is on this site that uses that launch all the time. Put out the truck you are looking for if you can that will allow the rest of us to keep an eye out for as well as avoid it should we see it at another local launch. Sorry to hear about the truck that just sucks. How did you do with pheasants this year?

I know how you feel, wifes car got dinged really badly.  No note, witness' or anything, typical parking lot idiot who can't use a mirror from the looks of it.  Sucks.  Car was in perfect condition up till then.

Ins. co's sure seam to Total vehicles a lot more than they used to.  Must be less paperwork or something.

 :yeah:

This has been a tough year for you, my friend.  Pheasants arrived weak, stolen crab pots, munched pickup truck.  You know better than to take out your anger on the idiot who smashed your rig, however.  Use the insurance (that is why you pay for it), take a deep breath, and have a great hunting season!

That really sucks and I know the feeling. Boat launches are bad places for vehicles and trailers. My truck was 2 weeks old when I got side swiped in the parking area of a launch in Canada. Then I got hit in Everett later last year.Over the years I have had 4 truck hits and 3 trailer hits. Never have I gotten a note of any kind. I have hit 2 trailers myself and left notes both times.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

Insurance figures it's cheaper to replace than fix. If it's worth it to you to fix, ask to buy it back after they total it. They will usually sell back to you at a discount.

It a rough calculation. A known fixed cost (the cost to total it out) is a firm number. The closer you get to a repair of that number it make more $ sense. If it has sentimental value buy it back and restore it.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

If it gets totaled it doesn't mean you can't keep it. Buy it back, you have the right to, and use the money to fix it. Sucks but you can still keep it if it's your gramps truck.

Is there more to the damage than just the side of the bed?

Have you given any thought to leaving the insurance out of it and just shop around for a used bed off craigslist, wrecking yards etc., then swap it out.

No branded title, no buy back... Just a thought.
