Which Savage?
« on: February 16, 2009, 04:33:22 PM »
I am going to sell my Youth Remington Model 7 .243 and buy a new .243 and i think i have settled on a Savage. I don't know a lot about Savages but i know i want one with the Accu-trigger. It seems like they make tons of models and i am not sure where to start. So i am wondering which model you guys would reccommend. I want a synthetic stock also. Thanks A lot.

What are you using it for?

Stainless or blued.

Here is the site.

Well it looks like 687 for the stainless and 563 for the blued model. They both have accutrigger and internal box magazines. Savages are good rifles. And very accurate out of the box. I think you will really like it.

I was in Wal Mart in Port Angeles just a few hours ago and they had a blued Savage 243 with accu trigger and a cheap scope with a synthetic stock for around 377.00 .  My brother is selling a Remington 700 243 adl with the camo synthetic stock. He just bought it and has only shot it a few times.  He is getting ready to move. I'm not sure what he wants but I think around 400-425.

How much are you asking for the Remington Youth?  Or is it already sold?

Savage rifle without accu-trigger have a adjustable trigger and are easy to adjust down to under 3 lbs.
Looked at one the otherday for $359 in 243 w/scope.

Slenk, thanks for the tip. i am beginning to re-think the accu-trigger, cause i am not sure that it is worth the extra money.

You could just go with a Stevens 200 model (same thing as a Savage) and build on it as you go. Stevens 200 rifles do not have the AccuTrigger but they are some real good shooters right out of the box. There are several shooters that go this route due to, just as you mentioned, the additional cost of paying for the accutrigger. You can put a Rifle Basixs trigger in the 200 and have a great shooter. Then later on, screw on a Douglas Air Gauged barrel and a better stock from SSS  http://www.sharpshootersupply.com/  and you are good to go.

as slenk said, you can adjust the triggers on the stevens as well...
