Here is why I decided to go homebrew over commercial.

1. For the price, the quality of the pic seems so much better.
2. You can look at your pics in the field.
3. Repairability, I built it...I can fix it (within reason)
4. I would rather work with my hands on a project than watch TV

Electronics is my business and photography is a major hobby. Building the homebrew trailcams is  the perfect blending of these things.

My most important thing is better control over camera settings with a homebrew.

1. Quality of pics & speed of cameras.
2. Customized units (size, camera make/model, IR or white flash, Camo, cable locking pipe-through, etc.).
3. Pure enjoyment of making/building things for far less that commercial solutions, but higher quality product.
4. Ability to troubleshoot, access, and repair the unit.
