Need a case trimmer recommendation
« on: August 12, 2016, 08:00:02 AM »
Converting .223 brass to .300 AAC isn’t as easy as the youtube videos make it out to be.  I’ve broken the tip off 2 Lee case trimmers now.  I need a better trimmer.

Any recommendations?

Wilson or C&H shell holders are the same for both.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

Check out "Little Crow Gunworks World's Finest Trimmer".  I love them and bought one for every one of my hunting calibers.  They fit into an electric or cordless drill and trim the neck according to the distance that you set it from the case shoulder.  I can trim 100 cases in about 10 minutes.

I looked at the little crow but I think I'm leaning more toward this:

I have one and love it.  I don't use the carbide tip...the standard chews through brass.  I have a second one for sale on here...but it does not come with the carbide, it is the standard cutter.

I was making .222 Rem from .223 and had to do a bunch of trimming for length.  I had a Forster case trimmer and took the handle off and clamped a drill gun to it.

Almost any lathe style trimmer would do.  I have the Redding 2400.  If I had to do it over, I would go with RCBS, simply because the pilots do not interchange between all brands, and my local store carries RCBS.

I had a RCBS lathe style trimmer, but it was slow and gave me a blister.  After I bought the Little Crow trimmer, I sold the lathe trimmer in a yard sale.
