The deer must know...
« on: August 31, 2016, 08:32:32 AM »
The deer must know that hunting season is about to begin. We purchased our property  just outside of town in Omak. We haven't seen deer since we moved in May all of a sudden we have about 6 bucks and 1 doe wander through our yard almost daily.

Will be setting a game camera and a 10 lb pile of apples to see if they will hang out for a while. :chuckle:

Idk about you but I thought the same thing when I built my house on my property, the first season I shot a bull elk and it felt different, haven't shot a thing since, my son has whacked a deer and a bear and then in the same season almost closed out a nice bull but messed it all up :chuckle: I enjoy just watching them now..

Those 10 pounds of apples will probably last 3 days. Just FYI.  Apples don't last long in front of a camera.

I was gonna say the same thing! You'll need more apples than that if you want them to stick around, gilroym

guess I read the regs wrong its 10 gallons. I can get cut up apples discarded from the orchard last year we laid half of an apple bin worth of apples on the ground they lasted almost a month. We ended up getting 5 deer off the 1 bait pile but that was up in the hills.

Set up a mineral site, its the gift that keeps on giving.  A 50 lb block and a 50lb bag of loose trace mineral salt with selenium dug into the dirt a bit will last way longer than a few apples.

Those giant Apple piles are the reason for the new baiting laws.

I disagree.  Jealousy about those giant apple piles are the reason for the new baiting laws.

Call it whatever you want. When they're getting dumped by the dump truck load and changing migration patterns of the deer, it's a bad idea.
