The 7.21 Tomahawk is a shorter fatter case, very similar to the WSM.  The 7RUM is quite a bit bigger case capacity.

Case length is right in the middle between the WSM (2.100) and 7 Rem Mag (2.500) at 2.350 and 3.320 with a 180 berger.

Remember, this is not a wildcat of any kind, it's a factory cartridge and is somewhat of a newer cartridge but is not chambered by any of the big name gun makers.

Winner winner chicken dinner!!!  That is correct, it's a 7mm Blaser Mag.  I'm curious, how did you know that??

it took a little research but after you posted the case length and I was pretty sure that's what it was. Neat cartridge!

Well done! I initially thought it looked like a Dakota but the shoulder angle was wrong. They sound like they're pretty similar though.

The real question now is what gun are you shooting it out of?

I bought a Rem LSS 300 win mag that was nearly new from a member here 3 or 4 years ago that's been sitting way back in the darkness of my safe ever since, that will be the donor rifle for this project.

I originally was thinking of doing a 7WSM but brass is nowhere to be found, except on gunbroker and I wasn't going to pay premium price for Win brass, also wasn't sure how well a 7 WSM would feed through a LA.  I didn't want anything with a case size any bigger than a 7 Dakota and no smaller than a WSM.  I despise any case that is belted and I was going the lazy route on this build and didn't want anything that required case forming, so as you can imagine, my options became very few and to narrow it down even further, I wanted something with good brass quality.  Not asking for much, right?! lol

Was looking through all the different 7mm's in my QL program and I see this 7mm Blaser Magnum, hmm, what the he11 is a 7mm Blaser mag because I never heard of it.  Clicked on the cartridge drawing and gave it a look.  Sweet, no belt and with a COAL of around 3.325 it should feed well through a LA Rem 700.  Ok, but can I get brass and dies for this thing?  Norma makes the brass and it's available from a few different places, check.  Found a set of Redding dies from another place, check check.

Tried finding some load data for a 7mm Blaser Mag and all I could find was factory ammo stuff.  Not that I was going to use someone else's load data but I was curious what kind of performance reloaders were getting out of one of these, yeah, I could not find one single anything of load data for this thing.  Yorke, you've built enough obscure things so you can probably appreciate this, but that just irritated me and made me want to have one built even more.

Going to keep this one in that medium weight range so with a 26in Hart #4 I'm thinking it'll be around 7ish lbs and probably around 9 lbs scoped.  Initial thoughts are to shoot the 175 ELD-X or 180 Berger in the 3000-ish fps range but only time will tell.

Nobody ever guessed the third bullet in that picture but the longest one is a 183gr Sierra MK.  The middle one is a 175 ELD-X and the shortest is a 180 Berger Hunting VLD.  That 183 SMK is long sexy looking bullet that could potentially be a lot of fun to shoot way far out there but with that tip, I doubt it would do much more than pencil straight through on a game animal so those will get a load worked up last.

I got the brass, bullets, and dies last week and the gunsmith ordered the barrel and reamer a couple weeks ago.  Nothing left to do but sit around twisting my mustache thinking up my next diabolical plan.  :chuckle:

I love it!

I hadn't heard of it until just now but it looks like it's been around for a while. Load data will be pretty easy to extrapolate from 7mm Dakota data. I use 330 Dakota data for my 338/375 Ruger and get the same performance as the 338 Blaser.

If you need suggestions for the next project, I've got plenty of ideas and reamer prints! :chuckle: The trick is to get started now so that you have a new project getting finished every 3-4 months.

Oh no, I can come up with plenty SWAHBI alllllll on my own, but I do appreciate the offer.  According to "The Warden" aka my wife, I've been having a little to much fun and she keeps threatening to put me on lock down.  I probably need to start treading lightly or I'll be knocking on your door with my pillow under my arm looking for a place to sleep. :yike:  She's up at the condo this weekend and I was bored yesterday so I text her a picture of an arrangement I made with some of my NFA stuff and titled it "say hello to my little friends"  yeah, I don't think she thought it was nearly as cool as I did because her response was "whatever"!  So I sent her back the middle finger emoji. ;)

BUT, I'm already thinking about a 270-7mm Blaser Mag build.  Already have a 6.5-06AI in the fleet so making a 270 version and shooting those new 170gr Berger Elite Hunters would make for a sweet setup and if I have a neck bushing die made up for the 7mm Blaser mag. in theory I should be able to use the same die but with a 270 appropriate bushing.  Hmmmm, a 170gr 270 bullet with a G1 bc of .706 launching somewhere around 3200+  FPS, what's not to love about that, right. lol

The ironic part of this is even though the whole Blaser line of cartridges is basically unknown to North America, this will be the first non wildcat build I've ever had done.

Yorke, do you have QL by chance?  If not, as many wildcats as you've played with, you'd find it a VERY useful tool.  The vast majority of the time it's, amazingly, spot on and is a huge time saver.  I had a well respected gunsmith and long range shooter turn me on to it 7 or 8 years ago.  I was a little skeptical at first but the more I used it the more confidence I've gained with it.  If you're already running it then I'm not telling you anything you don't already know but if you aren't, get it, it'll be the best money you ever spent and over time will easily pay for itself.

It's funny, I have QL but I only use it when I absolutely have to. I started off running Load From a Disk and I loved it until the designer died and the updates just stopped. That's when I got QL. I probably spend more time with QL looking for the parent case for my next wildcat than I do actually generating load data. :chuckle:
