Needs some help with a youth doe hunt in Unit 272 Beezley
« on: September 13, 2016, 09:41:42 AM »
As some may know, I am in the Big Brother/Big Sister program.  I have been paired up with my "little brother" for 4 years now.  I took him on a deer hunt as an observer last year and he was hooked.  I put him through Hunters Ed and he passed the class back in Feb.  He was very excited to have won a youth hunt in the Beezley unit this fall!  He can harvest a doe under this hunt.  I selected this unit as I had a place that we could hunt picked out.  That opportunity has fallen through.  I am looking for ideas for a place to hunt where we have a really good chance for getting a doe.  Due to the rules of the BBBS program regarding overnight trips, we are limited to one weekend during season that we can target hunting so I am looking for a place with good odds.  We plan on going the last weekend of the general rifle season (10/22 and 10/23)

I was thinking Swanson Lakes as I have been there a few times about 5 years back to scout around.

Anyone have any other ideas?  Not looking for a secret spot, just a place a kid can get a decent shot at a doe!  PM me if you want to help out, but don't want to disclose an area.

I cannot offer too much on Beezley, however I see that you mentioned hunting Swanson Lakes.  That Wildlife Area isn't in Beezley, rather it is in Harrington (GMU 136).  Just wanted to bring that up.

Best of luck with this and good on you for your mentorship.
