Wife and I decided to do that recently. We're pretty excited for it. It's a chunk of change but so are a few hundred purchased meals a year

Homemade dehydrated meals typically take longer than freeze dried.  I usually plan on 20-25 minutes for dinner to be ready after I add the water.

This is true. I actually misread the post above mine. I am buying an actual freeze drier. At least, for $3,000 it better not be a dehydrator  :chuckle:

Which one did you pick up?  I've been eyeballing a few.... I figure I could pay it off selling Blanchard Martin House brand for 5.00/meal in about 2 deer seasons :P

Harvest Right is what we chose. That's about the way we looked at it, cost was steep but so are all the dehydrated meals we eat. Plus we can freeze dry a lot of our produce instead of canning which gives a better product for many items. I can't wait, I have my first recipe picked out. Freeze dried rice and spicy fajita beef with avocados. Hope it turns out

Interesting thread.  I really wanted to try Heather's Choice but couldn't pull the trigger at $15 a meal.  I recently ordered a supply of meals from outdoor herbivore (I'm thinking they will like the idea of me eating their vegetarian food while trying to kill an animal), Mary Jane's Farm.

We will see how they go.  Outdoor Herbivore had some cold mix meals (Sunny Sunflower Salad, Coconut Chia Peel, Chia Oat Crunch, Waldorf Slaw, Appalachia, Toasted Sunburst Muesli.  I plan to subsidize with some jerky for protein.  The single-serving ones are 400-600 calories at 120-130 calories/oz.  That should be good for lunch for me since I can just mix a little cold water and wait a few minutes.

From Mary Jane's I picked up Curry in a Hurry, Mac N' Cheese, black bean soup, red pesto pasta, and santé fe posta.  They are a little light on the calories at about 500-600 for a double serving so I'll probably subsidize with some tortillas.

I've also tried Packit Gourmet.  Unfortunately, they raised their prices and discontinued some of the ones I liked the most.

I prefer dehydrated meals as freeze dried stuff jacks my stomach up.  I also like Hawk Vittles but his prices went up as well.

Am I missing any other dehydrated meal labels someone would suggest because I like trying new places?

Paleo to go is another brand I've seen but have not tried it - they have a website where you can order product.

I have gone through a few to taste test them.  It's what I am rolling with for a 6 day hunt so we will see.  I like what I have tried so far.

I just picked these up at Walmart yesterday, serves 4. Less than 4 dollars a meal, you will have to mix in a different bag. They are made to pour into the water, 4 cups, I made one in a different bag and worked great.
