I'm not offended that they got passed around, not a big deal. I just wanted to nip a rumor before it gained traction. I don't know Ren, but I did email these to a guy a couple years back who was trying to compile some information to talk with a bio about, it was probably him. I was to young to know any different at the time, thought it was cool seeing wolves for the first time. And now I haven't been frequenting the area since there is no steelhead season up there, so I have no idea if they are still around or not.

Just found a post of his eluding to that. Sounds like you sent them to him so he could talk to the bio about it.

After a lengthy conversation with a biologist about wolves in the Nooksack a member here sent me these 2 pics taken in the Nooksack... Biologist says they are "hybrids"....

My mistake
I did have several discussions on the subject of wolves with him. He was a member of Silver Arrow and a WSAA rep to the commision.

2 very important details were wrong. The river and the photographer. My mistake

It really is not a big deal, but I'm glad its being talked about. I don't usually get involved in these types of discussions, but when I saw my photo and incorrect information, I just wanted to set the record straight. As we all know, when it comes to these discussions regarding these animals, details are very important.

Here is a screen shot of exactly where that photo was taken. Of course the river has changed course several times now, but its close enough.

It's a big deal to me. Because if you don't admit when you've made a mistake your either a lier or a fool.

. I had a face to face confrontation with the pack in the original picture and I can tell you, at 15', they very much appeared to be and acted like wolves.

I'm sure they would.

Given how close dogs and wolves are, would DNA from poop or hairs even give a discernable answer to which species the sample came from?

When I was younger we used to see what we called "Weyerhouser dogs."  These were packs of large feral dogs with wolf like characteristics that rumor had it Weyerhouser turned loose on the west side to kill deer that were browsing on their young timber stock.  True/False?  Hell, I don't know.

I had opportunity to ask,  I grew up a few miles from the Weyerhouser girls and was friends with Jane, Phil Weyerhouser's daughter.  I could have asked George, her uncle, but never did.

DNA is the only way wdfw  will confirm they are wolves.  From comments like sled dog pictures it's not a great big surprise that people SSS. Been happening in the Skagit for a long time.

Is your photo looking toward finney or toward illabot?

Looks like the top is tword Rockport and I'll I both Creek is on the right side of the photo across the river from the pin.

Got that. I was curious if the canines were on the east or west side of the river.
