Idaho Unit 54 Deer
« on: September 25, 2016, 11:37:23 AM »
I'm headed down to Idaho Unit 54 in about a week for a deer tag I drew. Any familiarity with the area, advice,  experiences ,  stories,  is appreciated. I think I know where I am going,  but curious to what others know.

Awesome country.  I would love to have the tag.  My dad has drew it a couple times but that was back in the 80's.  The biggest problem with the unit is to many roads.  Find an area where you can get away from the roads and I bet you find a good buck.

Thanks BigShooter, that's kinda what I was thinking.  500 tags issued, but it looks like a large area.

Lots of country, lots of deer, but only a handful of big deer.

I think a 160" buck would be a dang good buck for the hunt; that being said, I've seen some 190"+ deer in there recently so there is always a chance.

Good luck.

I would wait a bit longer if you can. Tough time to hunt those bucks. Also, the later it gets the less ATV pleasure riding there is.

And to couple what JJ said, there are big deer but they are tough to find. Huge unit, have fun!

Thanks for the advice.  I am going next week,  as I already have the time off work. I have been Google mapping it a lot, trying to find some pockets without jeep trails going into them. If all else fails,  I should be able to return later in the season.
