6.5 creedmoor
« on: October 03, 2016, 08:56:03 AM »
Any one here loaded this round much? I just purchased the rifle in the ruger predetor to give a go and have been really impressed shooting hornadys factory ammo but still a fan of nosler bullets and will most likely start working some loads. Good chance I will upgrade the rifle as well in time.

Dont know about Nosler bullets but I load this for a friend. 140gn Bergers and H4350. I dont remember the exact load off hand but if I was to start over I would try the ELDx's. I know a good friend of mine took the Creedmoor to africa and shot a ton of stuff including mountain zebra with the 143gn ELDX and he was really impressed.

I reload for a 260 REM (pretty well the same).  Some bullets you'll want to try... I load mainly 130gr Nosler Accubonds with H4350.  Its a great shooter.  You can also shoot 125gr Nosler partitions if you need a little more speed.   You shouldn't have any trouble with 140's either but don't expect to break 2700 fps... you'll get the best accuracy with 140's in the 2600-2660fps range.  Lots of powders that will work.  You will probably get the best speeds with RL-17, and H4350.  H4350 generally gives great accuracy. Varget will give great accuracy, but speeds will generally be a bit slower.  6.5 Creedmoor is a fantastic round.

Also note: If you're reloading and can't get good accuracy with H4350, some people report H4831 gives them better accuracy...  Just a random piece of information.  : )

I have been shooting the Creed for about 6 years now. My load is 140 berger with h4350 seated just of the lands 2769fps and after shooting it long and correcting it came out 2777,but it is about a 1 week evolution in load development. It will shoot 3/8 at 300 yards. Yes 300y. Now my sons rifle doesn't like the load and he shoots 129SST SP off the shelf and it works great! interestingly his barrel is about 150fps slower. I have shot the rifle to 1460yards it will but I wont. It will hold great groups and you will love it. Best I've shot was 4" at 899y 5 shots.
We have shot critters out to 577y it is a great rifle no recoil fun to shoot. You will love it!

hunter67wa, Are you shooting a custom rifle or factory?
