Huntincouple Family Idaho Elk Hunt 2016.
« on: October 05, 2016, 12:40:34 PM »
Wow that was a fast and tedious two week hunt! Wife's turn this year with Sliver Slinger in the Backwoods of Idaho chasing the elusive Wapiti. This year I am the camp 'HOAST' and take care of everything from changing 14 month old sons crappy diapers to making Elk Camp flow as Smooth as possible. We roll into our base camp and get all set up. Get the wife into the woods ASAP as it is go time! She bumps some elk the first few days then it gets real slow. A couple days latter I gots boy on my back in a kid pack and daughter ahead of me and then wife in the lead with Pink Slivers at the ready. Daughter can elk bugle with her voice real good so she is our designated bugler. We are working up a finger ridge calling and listening. Daughter desides at 6yrs old to run up and catch up to mom?????? Well there was a racked bull coming in quite and they busted each other at about 30yrds!!!!! Never saw bull again...... More days go by more crapppy diapers are changed more meals are fixed, ate, and cleaned up. More water runs to keep the camper full of water for every bodies nightly shower. Then about 5:20 in the evening I get the TEXT on my phone that we all have been waiting for....... BULL HIT!!!!!!  Real good! Confirm probably single lung. Wife finds clear bubbles on ground where bull was standing when hit. She gives him time as he only walked off and stopped multiple times with in view. She here's him go down and crash into the steep hillside of bushes which Idaho is well known for. Next TEXT PIC is pilled up BULL ELK!!!!!!  Now its hammer time! Load kiddos into rig with pack frames , game bags and gear. Oh ya lots of water and snacks as its going to be a late nite. Start cutting up bull on very steep hillside while wife takes care of kiddos and helps bag meat as I get it cut loose. We do use the gutless method. Daughter helps out as much as she can by handing me stuff as needed. Both kids fall asleep on mom as I finish some finale boning. We head back to camp at 2:30am. Get them cleaned up and to bed. I head back up to bull to get meat shuttled to a cool draw which will speed up meat packing in a few hours.  Back In the daylite we take turns packing meat out. Only about a 1.5 mile round trip this time.  Wife is really excited to get a racked bull! This was our 10yr anniversary of hunting this same area where she shot a spike bull one year and I've killed several racked bulls in the same time frame. Can't wait for the kiddos to get the mentored youth tags!!!!!!!! :IBCOOL:

Lucky man. What a great family outing together. Congrats to your shooter wife, too!

Good job guys! You won't find many couples who put the amount of extra "work" in to getting the kids in there with them like those two. I have pics of your daughter sitting on a bull up there when she was a baby and that's not easy country. Next time you get one that's not a close easy 1.5 mile pack, give me a call I still owe you one.
