Grouse/Pheasant wings for training- Raw vs Dried
« on: October 09, 2016, 10:53:48 PM »
I am going to save the wings from the grouse I kill this Fall to train my puppy with over the next year and I'm curious if anyone else does this and if so, do you salt and dry the wings before storage or do you just freeze the raw wings and pull them out to thaw before using them to train?

2nd on Borex.  Place them on newspaper top and bottom, and the paper will draw out the moisture

I did this with duck wings 2 seasons ago getting ready for a new pup. I just laid them out on paper towels, top and bottom and let them dry in the garage. Didn't have any issues. Still have a few that I never used. I didn't want to use salt or borax cause I didn't want pup to have all that in his mouth. Maybe it doesn't matter though idk.

Wings aren't much for training. Fun for 5-6 week old puppies but, beyond that there isn't much they'll do for.you. Go buy a few chukar once a month use them, freeze them, dry them, re freeze them would do some good. Toss them when they make you gag a little.
