3 kinds of WA elk
« on: October 20, 2016, 08:44:08 PM »
I have been wanting to try the coastal elk hunt for a few years now. If I could get one I would have a Rocky, Cascade and Roosevelt from Wa. I like to hunt in different ways so I gave the mountain bike hunting a try and it worked out. Now my goal is to try and get a 5x5 or bigger Roosevelt to mount. pics Rocky,Cascade and 2016 Roosevelt.

Where does one find a Cascade elk?
I think they are classified as cascade Roosevelt elk if they are taken between i5 and the pacific crest trail. It is a Boone and Crocket scoring category I think.

Pretty sure he's referring to the Roosevelt/Rocky Mountain elk mixes that reside E of I5 and W of the Cascades range.  We've gotta call em something, right?   ;)

It's actually a NW Big Game Records scoring category. There is no category for Cascade Roosevelt elk in B&C or P&Y.  Those are Rocky's according to B&C.

Congrats by the way...that's a great achievement.
